Can We Really Add 15 Years to Our Life?

Lifespan in India in 1950 was 30 years. Today lifespan is 67 years. We want to take it to 85 years – It is easy (80% of our biological age of 120 years is 96 years; Children born today since 2011 should live up to 100 years).

Now, since we all know that it is not going to happen, so you can ask:
•Can we really add 15 years to our life?
•Can we really live healthy and independent, till the very last year of our life?

Answer to both of these questions is yes and yes.

Some of the achievements are already obvious to everyone. There are multiple reasons, but achievements are there too. When we became free in 1947, India’s life expectancy was 30 years, yes it was 30 years. Today, it is 67 years.
The one most obvious situation which proves my point is the HIV. When we first time diagnosed HIV, the lifespan was two years. You could live only for two years and today if we diagnose anyone with HIV, we can extend his/her lifespan for up to 20 years. Today, the technology and medical knowledge have become so advanced that we can diagnose and anticipate the risk of developing 10 medical conditions (which are discussed in our ‘Manage 10 Factors’ book) which can affect our life expectancy and our sense of independence and to some extent our happiness.

I believe that the people of middle class and in the cities can easily live a good life up to 85 years. I will tell you how. I will take advantage of advances in modern medicine to maximize my quality of life and maintain my independence. When I will be 75 years old, my mind will be excellent, and my son would call me a cool dad (my mom now 90 years of age can do calculations faster than my calculators).
• My vision/eyesight would be getting dim and it’s mostly because of the cataract at that stage. But I will get an intraocular lens implant. In older times, one needed very thick glasses.
• If my knee would be bothering me to the point where I am be able to walkaround because of the pain and it is going to happen if not sooner, than later due to arthritis. I will get done a total knee replacement and I can probably run faster than a 20 years old boy (just joking, but I will be independent and pain free). If I can’t walk around, I have about one year to live.
• I will keep a very close eye on my heart, get non-invasive testing done as often as needed. I will get either a cardiac bypass surgery or stent etc. That will add 5 to 10 years to my life. I will anticipate before getting a heart attack.
• If I start to become hard of hearing by age 75 and usually hearing does go down, then I will have a high tech hearing device which cannot even be seen. I could probably hear better than your children.
So, at 75 years of age, I will be able to run around better, able to see better, hear better and looking forward to 10-15 more years of enjoyable life with family and mentoring younger generation.

Today, unlike old times when we came out if medical schools in India, we have controlled all the infectious conditions and we have good treatment and vaccines for them. Nobody should die from tetanus, typhoid, cholera etc. anymore. That means the only thing we have to worry about is, as we go in our life, we are prone to get arthritis, diabetes, blood pressure or weight gain etc.

These are very easy to delay and manage, but by mismanagement they can cut down our life from 20 to 40 years. We strongly believe that middle class educated India can easily extend their life up to 85 years like most of the western world. What if I tell you we have means and technology to diagnose diabetes before it happens to you and even more important now we have the knowledge to delay onset of diabetes for all of us and similar answer exists for blood pressure also.

Our ‘Add15 Years’ books tell you where we have arrived today in medical profession and as a society/community which is the nest direction for us today. It has been written in the major western medical renowned journals that under 85s remain more capable and more mobile than before. They may have age related medical issues, but people survived them because they are diagnosed earlier and got better treatment.

The average human lifespan was extended by 30+ years because of doctors and experts in medicine. People used to die of polio at age 20 you clown. Or just die at 40 from whatever else they would catch. The fruits of their labor are literally right there in your face

If you start doing the things that I do the supplements, skipping breakfast, having a late lunch I think 20 extra years is totally reasonable.
